On The Ground - ROSÉ - Blackpink - Reaction and Review

Okay, sorry. This page is supposed to be for the books that I've read, but I really couldn't stop myself commenting about Rose's video. It's now over 110M views on YouTube. Imagine that? It only premiered on March 12, 2021 and Rose's first solo song. It's clear that Blinks are one of the bests! Kudos to all Blinks out there.

Yeah, I know. It's already been a week since this video was released. I'm one week late. I'm so busy with a lot of stuff, so I only stumbled upon this wonderful song just today when I opened my YouTube App.

Anyway, I'm not really a hardcore Blackpink fan. I'm just okay, I guess. I knew all their songs. I even can sing all of it. But yeah, not really a hardcore fan.

By the way, I love K-Pop. It's just I more prefer listening to Twice. Okay, this is now getting out of context. Let's move on to Rose's new song.

I love it. Simple as that. It's English, which means I could sing it even without memorizing it. All I need is a lyric and viola! I can sing it. No, just kidding. I can't sing.

But that's the wonder of it, right? For us non-Korean folks who love K-Pop, and could only sing the English part of any K-Pop songs, it's a blessing. A blessing that we won't ever ignore because we feel like Rose knew our struggles in terms of singing and listening to K-Pop songs, right?

Well, the melody is so catchy. It kind of feels like you're driving in the middle of the night with your window down and feeling the breeze of the night embracing you. Yeah! That's what I felt when I first hear this "On The Ground" song. It's perfect for driving at night without knowing where you're going.

Since the lyrics is pure English, with no Korean words in it, I instantly, instantly understood it. Not only that but I also immediately felt the emotion in the song. So it made me want to listen to it more.

But you know what? Why does it sound like Avril Lavigne was singing it? I don't know, maybe the vibe on the melody itself or I really don't know. There's just a nostalgic vibe in it, and there's this feeling that I've heard it before, which makes me think that maybe, maybe the reason I hear Avril in it is because it feels so early 2000ish? What do you think? I might be wrong.

The thing is, Rose didn't disappoint me or us with this new song, right? I will always crave for her songs since for me she has a wonderful voice. I don't care if other people think she has a chipmunk voice. She can sing. Period. That's a fact!

So, talking about the lyrics, I like the part:

I worked my whole life
Just to get high just to realize
Everything I need is on the ground

Come on, these words aren't only for famous people. I mean, it's so appropriate for everyone who has big dreams. Everyone who's so ambitious that we forget the people who love us. That we prefer to be someone standing on top. But when we finally reach the top, we find ourselves lonely, alone, and that's the time we realized that the thing that will really make us happy is the thing that we left behind.

Okay, am I being so emotional here?
