IU - Lilac 5th Album - Reaction and Review

Lilac - IU Album

Okay! Okay! Okay! I'm hyperventilating. Who hasn't listened to IU's newly released 5th Full Album? And have you streamed Lilac's MV? Few more views and it will now reach 5M on YouTube. Imagine, it's only released yesterday! But our Queen... our Queen just never disappoints us.

Just a little background. I first saw IU in Dream High with Bae Suzy, Kim Soo-Hyun, and Ok Taecyeon, and the first time I saw her on that KDrama I instantly fell in love with her. There's something in her aura that will make you fall for her even if she's not doing anything, right? Who doesn't agree?

Okay, I'm starting to get biased now. I apologize for that. Just kidding!

Let's now go back to her newly released song Lilac. I love the feel-good melody of it. It's appealing and it makes me want to sway my body just like how everyone dances on the music video. And the MV itself will make you smile from start to finish. Why? It's because she's so pretty from the beginning to end. Okay, I'm being biased again. Sorry!

Well, since it's written in Korean, I wasn't able to catch the meaning of it instantly. So I need to use google and search for the English Translation of it. I so love google, to be honest.

Anyway, how could KPop songs have a very upbeat melody while the lyrics have a contradicting meaning? I mean, like this song, it depicts a good-bye. But yeah, I know, it's a good-bye to your past self or memories, something like that. Telling someone to not forget you in a very endearing way. Now tell me, how would you ever forget something if someone will ask you in a very sweet way? I don't think I can.

Well, if you'll listen to it again while reading the lyrics, you'll have this notion that the lyrics might be a good-bye (a good-bye to memories--good or bad), but the upbeat melody of it describes the good in good-byes, which is saying hello to new things, right? So, if IU's saying good-bye to her previous self, which is her twenties, the saying hello part might be the welcoming of her thirties. Or I don't know it's just how I see it.

So, let's now talk about the entire album. It has 10 tracks on it, but among these ten tracks, which one is your favorite? It's difficult to choose, isn't it? I'm having a dilemma myself, so I listened to them over and over again appreciating every track. But of course, let's be honest, there will always be one or two that will stand out, right? So for me, I like Lilac, Coin, Troll, Empty Cup, and My Sea.

The thing about Troll that I like is the collaboration that IU did with Dean. Their voice just kind of complement each other, and it has a western vibe in it. It just so happened that it's written in Korean. Anyway, that's just my take on it.

My Sea reminds me of Love Poem. I mean, the slow pacing of the song and the emotion invested in it kind of have similarities. Anyway, Love Poem is one of my favorites from IU and I don't know why I cried the first time I heard it. It makes me so emotional. The funny thing is, I don't understand the lyrics since it's written in Korean, right.

Okay, all in all, I love this album. There are so many good things in it, and I honestly couldn't choose which one is my favorite.

If you haven't heard it yet, please, please, listen to it, and stream her new MV, too.
